Follow these steps in Chrome
Step 2
Extract the zip before installing
Open the downloaded zip and extract it into a normal folder. Chrome cannot load the extension directly from the zip file.
Step 3
Open Chrome extensions with developer mode on
In Chrome, go to and turn on Developer mode using the switch in the top-right corner.
Once Developer mode is on, Chrome will show extra buttons including Load unpacked.
Step 4
Load the extracted folder
Click Load unpacked, then choose the extracted Genrupt extension folder from your computer.
Step 5
Confirm it is installed
After Chrome loads the folder, you should see the Genrupt extension in your extensions list and be able to pin it.
Troubleshooting
If Chrome does not load the extension on the first try, these are the most common fixes.
Chrome will not accept the file
Make sure you extracted the zip first. Load unpacked only works with a normal folder.
You picked the wrong folder
Choose the extracted extension folder itself. If Chrome opens an empty or incorrect folder, go back and select the folder created after extraction.
Load unpacked is missing
Developer mode is probably still off. Turn it on in the top-right corner of chrome://extensions and the button should appear.
The extension is installed but hard to find
Click the G icon in Chrome, then pin Genrupt so it stays visible in your toolbar.
